It’s very easy for us people to do certain job which we’ve been repeatedly doing for so many times. I’ve been working for a company for more than 1 year. I worked as a programmer and I’m comfortable being it. I’m kind of person who is always eager to learn and learn more about my field of study.

After experiencing being employed for a company, I decided to step up and enter the world of change. Actually, I don’t have clear job to go into. I will focus more on our goals. I can still do outsourced works to sustain my needs.

Honestly, I don’t want to be dominated by someone else. I want to use my time whenever I need it without hindrances. I decided to quit my job because of this simple reason. We wanted to build our own firm. We’ve been dreaming of this for so long and nothing seems to happen if we will just keep on dreaming. We have goals and these need to be fulfilled with dedication, perseverance and sacrifices.

It seems difficult to make necessary change specially I’m already comfortable with what I’ve been doing for quite times. But change makes me grow. Afraid to fail is the big obstacle why we tend not to make change. This line empowers me every time I read it from one of the motivators:

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work” – Thomas Edison

I enjoyed staying in the company. Mingled with people with different attitudes and personalities. I’ve learned from these people the attitudes that can be adopted and to be thrown away. I’m really blessed because this company and people within became an instrument for me to step up and prepare for the next challenge. Thanks all!

Keep going.

“It’s not just about working harder, it’s about working smarter”. I’ve always heard that line from a radio station in US every time he starts his program. The host’s name is Mark Deo. His program talks about small business. He invites and interviews prominent people to get some insights what are the imperative things to consider in putting up a business.

Literally, the line “It’s not just about working harder, it’s about working smarter” seems to me is obviously right. I know you would probably conform with me too. Why would you strive and hardly do things that take you too long if you could do it with just exerting minimal effort yet more efficient and accurate?. You don’t need to perspire and be looked exhausted to be called you are doing things effectively.

Learn to delegate. If you were given 1 day to do 10 important things. Of course, you might feel hasty and come to think how would you efficiently divide your time to get these things done by yourself. Ideally, you should not do it all by yourself. Doing things in a haste would probably lead to a poor output. Even though you are too proficient you can’t still accomplish numerous to-do given a limited time. So it’s time to delegate some of your workloads to your close friends, colleagues or others who can be taught. In this way, you could also focus more on other paramount things. You will become more productive as well.

Use innovative technologies. Instead of going to the bank and pay your bills. Why wouldn’t you use online payment system which almost banks have. You may use Credit Card or Savings Account to pay your bills online with just few clicks on your mouse. Why would you manually compute your balance sheet if you could use Microsoft Excel (or the like) and put your formulas there so it will automatically and accurately compute itself. If you are a project manager you could use numerous free online project management tools in distributing tasks even though your subordinates are far away from you.

There are lots of alternative ways to help our work more efficient and effective without putting much effort. Just keep in mind, working smarter is sometimes better than working harder.

- keep going

Last sunday, Harney was the representative of the group to attend the Cash Flow 101 – is a board game designed by Kiyosaki, which aims to teach the players concepts of investing and making money. By the time he arrived at the location, he suddenly felt nervous because he was the only person sitting at a large table. His nervous depleted a little bit when a guy named “Brey” the only person who greeted him first. He’s a friend of “Ellisa” harney’s office mate from his previous work.

He has learned a lot from that workshop. He has learned what are the things to be instilled into the mind to get out of the so-called Rat Race – living paycheck to paycheck and spending all of their time working to pay bills. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get out of the Rat Race. He also has grasped what is the distinct difference between assets and liabilities.

These are the key things the speaker had shared:

Decide to succeed and live a life of abundance

The objective of wealth is not to make a lot of money. It is to grow reach your full potential

Start immediately. Look for options that allow you to learn new skills.

Start Part time or full time.

Financial success is not determined by the roll of the dice, but by financial literacy.

The more you lay the game, the more you understand the principles of financial success.

Create your mastermind team.

The company you keep determines how far you will go. Stay only w/ people who will assist you in the journey to financial freedom.

My father approached us (Marvin and Me) if we have prospect buyers for this. We told the owner that there’s no prospect buyer for that price, and he turned the price down into php15,000. We told the owner again that your laptop doesn’t have drivers php15,000 is too high. You have to consider and accept your member’s diverse perspectives and opinions. You also have to instill a culture that makes your team members work together smoothly and automatically. We started the team and called it Webgroundz some time in 2005. At the very first we were just three dedicated people namely marlito (me, 23), marvin (my brother, 26), harney (the big one, 22). We were all students of STI College Santa Rosa, Laguna and our venture started there. Every year the STI head quarters holds a competition entitled “Tagisan ng Talino (GIFS and TAGS – Developing a website)”. Entries come from various STI schools nationwide. In 2005, we were fortunately picked by our school to be a delegate to join the said competition. That was the first competition we had joined together. The competition aimed to develop a website for our alma mater.

After school hours, we regularly went to our computer laboratory to start developing the website. We had been working for 15 hours almost everyday from 4pm until 7am. We worked until other students and faculties had left the campus. Coffee, Gatorade, various junk foods and music became our buddies which kept awakening us.

We all know that developing a website preferably needs proficient designer. My brother and I can design but we are poor in recognizing colors. Red and orange seem to us just the same. Harney is always to the rescue to choose the intended colors. Not to degrade harney’s self-esteem. He is poor when it comes to designing. That’s why destiny made us closer for us to work harmoniously. We basically brainstorm when it comes to programming. We also let each of us to simulate different approach to come up with various choices to vote from. Sometimes we argue seriously. Defending one’s different thought that seem to him more efficient. But we always end up to a compromise.

All school staffs and our friends were optimistically expecting that we would win the competition. From about 100 schools who had participated the competition down to only 10 schools which had been chosen to step up to elimination round and entitled to defend their websites. Fortunately, the head quarters emailed our dean informing that we made to the top 10. We were astonished when this news came to us. We didn’t expect this to happen. Our friends and faculties started to congratulate us. But the competition was not yet over. We still had to show and defend the website to the panel of judges.

The day before the actual presentation, we deliberately practiced the flow how we would thoroughly present the website within a given time of just 15 minutes. We had to convey all features we had made throughout the website. I personally thank my father for being supportive and building our confidence up in preparing for that impending deliberation.

The time of deliberation has come. We were at the venue. We saw different contestants together with their coach and dean. They were preparing and glancing again their websites. They seemed look confident. We couldn’t stop our heart from pounding. We were trying to dissemble our nervousness for us to be perceived that we were confident. The place was too cold and my palm started sweating. Our nervousness depleted a little bit when we just knew that presentation would be done behind closed door with only organizers and judges inside. The organizer started to call us one by one to get inside the room.

To make the story short, all websites had been presented. Our nervousness had gone out a little bit but we still felt the pressure. The final verdict was about to be announced. All people inside the venue were excited to hear it. The 2nd runner up was called first (STI Taft). My palm was sweating more. There were 2 place left it’s either a champion or 1st runner up. To make the aura more exciting, the announcer had decided to disclose the champion. The champion was STI San Pablo and we just got the 1st runner up. The announcer said that our score was not too far from STI San Pablo, with just .5 ahead. We were not too upset. At least we still made to this place which other schools were wishing to.
